Yavnika 2022-23

I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being. -Thornton Wilder

Drama transcends mere words on a script; it breathes life into the stage with its authentic portrayal of real people and genuine emotions, captivating the audience in its embrace. Drama, as an art form, mirrors reality and showcases the essence of life itself.

The much-awaited Interhouse Hindi Play Festival, "Yavnika," of St. Xavier's Sr. Sec. School, commenced on the 21st of July, 2023, with a grand opening. The event began with the introduction of esteemed judges, prominent names in the field of Drama and Theatre: Piyush Joshi Mam, Vinod Soni Sir, and Sarvesh Vyas Sir. Their graceful presence graced the occasion and set the stage for an enchanting evening. The auditorium was filled with optimism and positive energy as the Lamp-Lighting ceremony took place, with Reverend Father Principal M. Arockiam, Vice-Principal Biju Sir, and the esteemed judges participating in the ritual.

The first performance of the evening was presented by the Greens house, titled 'Kaash.' This poignant play revolved around the life of a lonely mother, Kavita, who loves and cares for her children. 'Kaash' served as a powerful reminder of the importance of cherishing our relationships and acknowledging the love and respect our mothers deserve.

The talented Aditi Jasoria was awarded the Best Actress of the Greens House for her exceptional acting skills and captivating dance performance that left the audience spellbound. Next up was the Blues House with their play, 'Kaagaz,' a satirical take on the prevailing corruption in Government Offices. The play revolved around Mussadilal, an ex-school teacher seeking his well-deserved pension after years of dedicated service, only to be shockingly declared legally dead. Desperate to prove his existence, he embarks on a journey from one office to another, pleading with indifferent officials who shirk their responsibilities.

'Kaagaz' shed light on the struggles faced by poor government employees in their quest for basic rights, thwarted by corruption and inefficiency within the system.

Saarthak Tyagi, who portrayed Mussadilal, emerged as the Best Actor of the Blues House and received the prestigious Overall Best Actor award. His incredible emotive performance, flawless dialogue delivery, and impeccable comic timing left the audience thoroughly entertained.

The Reds House delivered a gripping and side-splitting performance that took the audience on a hilarious journey. "Happu and His Playful Servants" showcased comical encounters, including a dance sequence and a funny ghostly scare.

With impeccable dialogue delivery, perfect comic timing, and modern humour, the play left everyone in stitches with laughter. The Golds House presented a deeply moving and soul-stirring play that left the audience breathless. "Vidharma" portrayed the heart-wrenching journey of a young girl, Anita, whose dreams of education and independence were shattered after being forced into marriage with Mahesh.

Garvita Mishra won the prestigious title of overall best actress for her mesmerizing portrayal of Anita, leaving the audience spellbound and the judges unanimous in their decision.

The moment of truth arrived, and the Blues claimed the first position with an exceptional performance. An electrifying twist followed as the Greens and Golds tied for the second position, showcasing their brilliance. The Reds secured the third position, leaving a lasting mark on the audience.

Cheers erupted, emotions ran high, and the Interhouse Play Festival - Yavnika (Hindi Drama) celebration echoed in the air, reminding everyone of the boundless power of talent.
