CRICKET SENIORS 2022

" Cricket is not just a sport, it is a feeling. "

The much awaited and rousing Xavier's Seniors Cricket Tournament was held from 17th September to 19th September with the 4 houses competing against each other.

The first match was played between heavyweights reds and blues where the blues failed to show any kind of resilience and were thrashed by a star studded reds lineup . Hriday Sharma was the star of the match with a fiery 40 and an important wicket to his name.

The second match was between arch rivals greens and golds which turned out to be a last ball, high scoring thriller where the momentum shifted back and forth throughout the game. In the end,Umang Badetia bowled an exceptional last over to keep golds in the hunt. The match was tied on the last ball and greens eventually made it to the final by winning the super over. Abhimanyu choudhary was instrumental in his team's victory as he single handedly won the game through his heroics.

The third match was a dead rubber between golds and blues and the blues proved to be too much for the golds who lacked any sort of rhythm throughout the match and eventually were the wooden spoon holders of the tournament. The man of the match was leggie Raghav Jhanwar who spun the match in the favour of his team with a 3 wicket haul and his miserly spell.

The showpiece match of the competition was a 15 over rain halted contest played between reds and greens who fought tooth and nail in order to be victorious. The reds team, batting first was struggling badly after first 10 overs but a brilliant, match defining knock by Hriday Sharma and a sparkling cameo by Garvit Chadha powered the team to an above par score of 133. In reply, Greens unfolded like a pack of cards and were broken apart in an exemplary bowling performance by the reds team. But Abhimanyu Choudhary stood unmoved in the storm and continued scoring runs at a good pace. The greens required 80 runs in 8 overs when the weather obstructed the match for 2 days. On resuming, Abhimanyu Choudhary soon departed and the green's last glimmer of hope was also lost. The greens lower order ( Daksh Jain and Apnatva Thambi) tried their best with a partnership of 47 runs of just 34 balls but could not avoid a defeat at the hands of tournament favourites Reds.

The man of the finals and the tournament was Hriday Sharma for his excellence in both the departments. He was also the best batsman of the tournament. The best bowler of the tournament award was presented to Raghav Jhanwar who bowled superbly throughout the competition.

We would also like to thank school management, Mr Jagmohan Dandiya sir and the House captains who provided their best support in order to make the event possible. The audience was also very charming and cheered and applauded the efforts of all the players.
