Yavnika 2022-23

COVER OF 1ST HALF BY RISHIMA BISHT The Yavnika

Hindi Play ’22 was held on 21st July 2022. The first half consisted of 2 plays by Blues & Golds house respectively. The Panel of Judges consisted of Mrs. Peeush Joshi, Mr. Vinod and Mr. Sarvesh and the auditorium was filled by class 12 students throughout the event. Blues started off with an enthusiastic scene of 3 childhood friends jamming in a room. Their play ‘Atrangi Yaari’ showed various sides of friendship and it’s effect on one’s career and dreams. The Main character Shyam, played by Sarthak tyagi was faced with an unimaginably tough choice to either chase off his dreams and stardom in Mumbai leaving his friends behind or continue living with them where they were stuck auditioning and not hearing back. Eventually, with much contemplation, Shyam chose to take off and go to Mumbai. Upon reaching Mumbai his dreams were shattered upon finding out the reality of the corrupted music industry and the treatment given to rookies. His friends Raj and Rinki, on the other hand, were devastated and in denial of the betrayal they faced by their childhood friend Shyam abandoning them out of nowhere to rush after his individual dreams. After much consolation and comfort from each other Rinki and Raj were back on their feet, starting off a musician’s group back in their hometown. Back to Shyam who was being worked to the bone by his producer and fellow senior singers got tired of the pestering and felt soul crushing guilt for leaving his friends behind. Sarthak’s acting in this particular scene is commendable and earned praises from the crowd. Shyam, after having his heaving mental breakdown, decided to go back to his hometown in hopes of being forgiven by his old friends.

Looking at Raj and Rinki now who have established a fairly successful musician’s group and were happy with their lifestyle, had their world shook beneath their feet when they stumbled upon Shyam working as a waiter in a no-good restaurant. The re-uniting of 3 childhood friends, separated by greed for luxury and stardom was fairly dramatic and revealed tons of pent-up emotions and feelings, eventually ending the play with Raj and Rinki forgiving and accepting Shyam back into their group and as a dear childhood friend. Blues house gave an outstanding performance, the actors were phenomenal and conveyed their emotions and dialogues well. Although, the house participants faced technological difficulties with sound and stage setting, they delivered a well-applauded play. The audience was fairly entertained which set-off the event to a good start. Title of Golds house’s play is ‘Pehchan De gaya’ which makes our imagination run amok as to what the play could be about? Their first scene started off as a court case between older Gunjan and her accused brother Ajay. Older Gunjan, played by Aishwarya ravi was a young woman in distress because of the constant abuse she suffered in silence. The play later on dials back to older Gunjan narrating her life story to motivate other young women who are suffering or have suffered something similar. The younger Gunjan is seen living with her aunt and her older brother Ajay, as her mother is paralysed and sick. Gunjan has her eyes set on her college education and after a lot of convincing and her brother having her back in this argument, she was finally able to go to college and complete her studies. Her brothers support, sadly, turned out to be a ploy to get some alone time with younger Gunjan for the mischievous acts he had in mind. Younger Gunjan eventually got to know of her brother’s true nature and was terrified and extremely uncomfortable around him but still decided to keep quiet and let her sufferings pass in silence. At a point when younger Gunjan finally had enough she decided to let her friends know of her pain, her friends were extremely supportive and sympathetic towards her. The word spread around like fire and reached her brother’s friend group who then decided to threaten Gunjan to keep quiet or they’ll hurt her severely. After threatening Gunjan and facing resistance from her, Ajay decided to throw acid on her face to shame her and keep her quiet. This was a desperately failed attempt by Ajay to keep Gunjan quiet and hidden because after that incident Gunjan only got bolder and even more confident in herself, she even decided to help other women out and inspire them to believe in themselves and speak up for their rights. This play was truly a motivating experience for the audience. Golds house gave an incredible performance and their story was heartfelt too. Although, similar to blues they did have a step back when it came to lightning, stage and audio settings, they gave a refined performance with a top-notch script and great acting skills. The audience had a mixed reaction to this play, some seemed to think it was mediocre and below expectations and some opinions praised golds for their work.

THE SECOND HALF OF YAVNIKA COVER BY RISHIMA BISHIT:-

The second half of the Yavnika was started by Joel K.S.’s remarkable half show performance singing on the guitar. After the melodic break it was time for the Red House’s hindi play. Lead actor Akaash Krishnia did a wonderful job in bringing the stage to life with the sorrowful show about a child slowly losing his eyesight and his mother sticking with him through thick and thin through this diffident journey of self acceptance. Ensuing the Red’s wonderful play were accordant performances by Joash K.S. on the keyboard and Hemangi Singh Deora on the mic and another by Joash K.S. again on the keyboard and Pranav Tyagi on the flute. The Green House’s play was a comical life lesson about two friends who left their modest job and choosing to pursue illegitimate tasks for easy money trying to take shortcuts in life played by Abheer Bhatia and Mohit Sharma, coming to learn their lesson after kidnapping a child played fantastically by Aditi Jasoria. Thereafter was a speech given by hon’ble judge giving all young performers and entertainers tips and pointers with his years of experience commanding the room with his charm and charisma with the closing speech given by respected Principal Fr. M. Arockiam thanking everyone who took part in the fest and for the audience and judges for appreciating all the moving pieces in the festival with amazing ending performances by our beloved alumni Priyansh Bhargawa and Dhwani Dhadich.
